2019 Nashville End of the Decade Honky Tonk Tour - Day 1

Off to Nashville with Thomas for a four day trip. Good start to the journey. My BART train to SFO arrived as I came down the stairs at The Embarcadero station.

As I sat in the waiting area at SFO I looked around at the others waiting for the flight to board. Any musicians? Anyone seeking fame or fortune? I don’t see anyone. No carry on guitars, banjos or mandolins.

On board. Nice seat. Oh shit - tiny frightened looking baby in the row behind me! This is going to be a long 4 hour flight. She is with two dads. I  think that is pretty cool but my sexist 60 year old mind can’t help but think a mommy could calm her down better when she starts to wail.

We have not taken off and she is winding up...I can feel the dad rocking/shaking her. Thank god a Good Samaritan woman across the aisle recognizes the same issue (probably my imagination - she might just be nice) and reaches over kindly to distract. Ok for now.

The baby only cried for about 15 minutes after takeoff. Daddy rocked her gently to sleep.

All is good. I just checked inflight entertainment. They have my favorite movie Young Frankenstein. This is going to be a great flight. I have seen this movie at least a dozen times but it never loses its punch. I know all the great lines and they still make me laugh. What a pleasure!

I noticed for the first time today that this guy wears his monocle over his eyepatch! Very clever Mel. The gags never end.

Frau Blucher! Neighhhh.

Next, I got to finish Shaft. On my last flight I did not get to the end. I love Samuel L. Jackson.

I Picked up our rental car. They let me pick from about ten cars. I think I made a good choice for Nashville - a red Dodge Charger.

Found the airbnb. Roomy and clean. I turned on the big TV and tuned in an old Andy Griffith Show rerun, in honor of being in the South.

Thomas' flight did not arrive til 9 p.m. I decided to go find some ribs for dinner. I went downtown to Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint. Yummy dry rub ribs with green beans and Mac and Cheese. I washed it down with two Tennessee Sours.

Nashville is very wide open. Wide streets, big lots. King size parking spaces. I have not seen it yet in the light.

I picked up Thomas at the airport, after stopping for a few groceries. He is impressed with the Red Dodge Charger. We tried to get some food and a drink at a bar but most things were closed. We are back at the house, eating potato chips, drinking beer and listening to Johnny Cash.

I'm really tired. Please wake me in April. Good night. Winter hibernation starts now.
