Pumpkin pancakes. One of my favorite breakfasts. I recognized a waitress at Fat Apples who used to fawn over Meyer when he was very young. First when she worked at Ajanta; then at Fat Apples. He was shy and did not enjoy it. It was very cute. Here she is twenty something years later, still working at Fat Apples. I had not been there in years. A little trip down memory lane. We had many meals there when Meyer and Peg were young, while we lived in the East Bay.
Then, off to Costco to get a new TV.
So, we did not quit DirecTV. As per our usual pattern, they sucked us in to a new cheaper deal. Needed to upgrade our TV. I went to Costco determined to buy a really good TV for about $1500. The salesman convinced me to get one for $500. I'll come home a hero. Not only in my house but my mom's. This was the first time ever that she went to Costco and bought nothing.
After that, we went to REI. I needed to get shoes for the Camino. I got another pair of my trusty Salomons. I am on my fourth or fifth pair. So comfortable. I'll start breaking them in tomorrow.
Last stop: Tokyo Fish. Berkeley has the best grocery stores. Tokyo fish is a mega fish market and Asian/Japanese grocery. Great selection of fresh fish and sushi and yummy stuff.
As we ate the futomaki, it reminded me of an old family friend, Karl Yoneda. He was a close friend of my grandpa Meyer. Karl introduced our family to Japanese food and Sushi. I remember the Futomaki he made. I recall going out for Sushi years ago when there were few Japanese restaurants. We ate at Edokko on San Pablo in Berkeley. Different times. Read here about Karl Yoneda and his wife. Very interesting man.
