Took Muni to UCSF this morning. There was a troubled looking Lady on the streetcar who could not stop giggling. Everyone on the car very aware but ignoring her at the same time. It was not a happy giggle. You see some interesting things in the city.
I went UCSF hospital to accompany a close friend for his cancer treatment. This brave friend is fighting for his life. He is undergoing serious chemotherapy and other therapies which are weighing heavily on him, physically and emotionally. He has become an expert in that which is attacking him. He has rallied his friends and family for support. I look forward to many more years of friendship. Not an easy path right now.
We had a good time together. He is able to roll with the punches and stay upbeat.
His sister is going to make vegan latkes. I looked up a recipe for vegan latkes. It looked good. Except that it was a recipe for vegan latkes WITH SOUR CREAM!
I had to leave the hospital to get to the boat so I could pick up my crab pots. So excited because last time I got 14 crabs. From UCSF, I could see the Golden Gate. It looked foggy at first but then It started to clear.
Took the streetcar downtown and then Ubered to Treasure Island. Tried to explain to an ignorant Uber driver the benefit of being an employee under the new law. He couldn't quite get it.
Got the boat ready and headed out solo to pick up the pots. Uh oh - Golden Gate socked in with fog. Told myself, "you can do this!"
Have good radar and GPS. It wasn't that bad. Just followed my instruments to where I had marked my pots. There were my little red and white floats within 25 feet of each other. No looking around.
Got the boat hook and got each one on the first pass. Pulled them up with my winch, carefully coiling the line in a neat circle.
Disappointment. One nice crab in the first pot and one throw back rock crab in the second. All the bait neatly devoured. One halibut skeleton left behind.
Who knows what happened. I have never left the pots out overnight. Crab thievery is a possibility.
South tower of the Golden Gate Bridge, on the way back in.
My plan for a big crab fest with the family down the tubes. I gave them a rain check. The one crab in the photo was bigger than shown - and he was DELICIOUS for dinner.
