Spent another day with my mom. Beth and I went for lunch with her to Bowl'd Korean Restaurant on Solano Avenue in Berkeley.
We all ate Bibimbap - a mashup of veggies, rice and your choice of protein served in a VERY HOT heavy stone bowl. So hot that by the end of your meal, the rice on the bottom gets cooked hard against the bottom of the bowl. That is the best part. Beth put it well: "you get to mine the crispy bits."
After lunch I dropped in to visit an old friend, Iraj Vafaeenia, proprietor of Solano Oriental Rug Gallery.
Iraj served me up a cup of tea. He taught me to drink it Iranian style - with a special hard sugar cube in my mouth. My mom says my Grandmother Ethyl used to drink it that way. She grew up in Russia.
Beth and I are in Inverness for the weekend. Planning a long hike for tomorrow. Gotta get ready for the Camino.
No big messages or heavy thoughts today. Nice to spend time with my mom. One of my goals was to spend more time with her. Mission accomplished.
