Bored Meeting

Took a 6:30 a.m. spin class. Drove Hell Bitch (our Honda truck) to Sacramento for the California Applicants Attorneys Association Board Meeting and Strategic Planning Conference.

What am I doing here? I'm retired. I am still on the CAAA Board of Directors. Not working, I have felt disconnected from the workers comp community. Being here is good for me. I feel valued and included. It is good to be with this group. I have attended meetings and conventions several times a year with the CAAA board for almost 20 years.

I owe a huge debt to this organization.  l learned most of what I used in practice from CAAA. I would not be where I am without CAAA. The CAAA board is  a group of like minded liberal folks dedicated to helping injured workers. An industry group of do-gooders.

I won't bore you with the details of what we discussed. Mostly politics as it affects injured workers. Big discussion of the Gig Economy (Uber, Lyft, Doordash, etc.). Workers get classified as independent contractors without benefits, including workers compensation benefits. There is a new law AB5, set to go into effect in 2020. That law provides that most of the drivers in the Gig economy would be treated as employees, with benefits.  However, Uber is planning a legislative initiative to get around the law. They will spend millions on it.

Dinner at Ella's. Big tables. Family style. Good fun with old friends.

Told war stories. Ate and drank to our fill. Until tomorrow morning.

Winter Hibernation

I'm really tired. Please wake me in April. Good night. Winter hibernation starts now.
